As a medium sized organisation in the service sector, a Gateshead-based company has always striven to provide extra benefits for its employees.  Private medical insurance was just one of those benefits, but with a number of mistakes being made by the incumbent insurance company and the increasing amount of time needed to administer the scheme, the organisation's HR department had questioned the value of private medical insurance.

Asked to investigate the possibility of switching the policy to another provider, Ponteland Healthcare Solutions presented an alternative to the organisation.  Not content with a simple switch of policy, the PHS team advised the organisation to reassess the way in which the policy was administered.  As a family-oriented firm, there were a number of husband and wife teams in the employee list of the organisation - who had previously been listed under joint names for the medical insurance.  PHS suggested that in these cases the employees should be listed individually, under their own names, thus taking the number of members on the policy to over 20.

"As with many policies aimed at organisations, there was a ‘magic number' at which medical history can be excluded, meaning a better standard of cover for every employee regardless of their health in the past," explained PHS.

Not only did the policy deliver improved cover for the organisation at the same cost, but PHS also relieved the pressure of administration from the HR department by providing a medical insurance management service.
